Emily Alexander

Violin and Viola

Born in South Africa, Emily began the violin aged 5. After returning to the UK following 10 years in Australia, she attended Junior Guildhall School of Music and Drama studying with Margaret Norris and Krzysztof Smietana. Emily lead the Surrey County Youth Orchestra and toured both as a soloist and chamber musician around Romania, Italy and Prague.

She studied for her BMus (Hons) at the RNCM under Maciej Rakowski and Yair Kless. Since leaving the RNCM, she coaches chamber music, musicianship and Dalcroze on Pro Corda. Until recently Emily held the position of Head of Strings and formerly Assistant Director of Music at Sedbergh School, Cumbria and enjoys freelancing around the UK.

Emily has toured around the UK, including performances in the Royal Festival Hall, Royal Albert Hall, Purcell Room and Snape Maltings. She was fortunate to receive solo and chamber music masterclasses from Yfrah Naeman, Peter Norris, Oleg Kogan and The Chillingirian Quartet.

Emily moved to Todmorden in 2016 and in her spare time enjoys cooking, travelling and walking up hills.
