Jen Trott

Violin, Folk Music

Jenny is an enthusiastic and dedicated musician, music tutor & youth worker, specialising
in violin and piano, and also runs Jiggerie Folkerie youth folk group, based in Hebden
Bridge. Outside of teaching she plays and sings in several bands (The Revelator Band,
Ghost School and The Agents of Karma) ranging from folk to blues rock, has featured on a
variety of local projects, plays guitar badly and enjoys writing songs.
With parents heavily involved in the South Wales folk scene, Jenny has been involved in
music all her life. She began violin lessons in school aged 8 and started private lessons at
the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama aged 11, achieving Grade 8 aged 16. She
spent most of her childhood and teenage years playing in a number of orchestras, which
began her love of ensemble playing. Graduating with a BA Music in 2007, Jenny took a
step back from playing for a few years, which is the reason she is passionate about
making musical activities fun as well as educational. She rekindled her love of playing
when asked to play for a friend’s wedding and began her teaching business in 2015, keen
to inspire a new generation of musicians in a variety of genres.
Jenny has also done extensive research into the link between playing a musical instrument
and mental health, as well as having designed a number of music education games and
stories, which are in the process of being published.
